the sacred in normal

Our family lost normal.

For a month everything was turned upside down.

Sickness and worry clouded our days.

I knew that the sacred, the beauty in normal needed to return.

Simple joy.

Candles lit lining our table.

The red catching in the morning sun.

Marking this space as wanted. Needed.

Nothing else changed.

No new books or schedules or plans.

Just candles. Flickering light.

Celebrating life.

Learning.

The crayons were still there.

A waffle here, my coffee there.

 The table was full.

My mindset had changed.

The table wasn't cluttered anymore.

It was beautiful.

I had forgotten normal.

When Samuel was so sick I wanted to be able to sit at the table and learn with my children.

Yesterday, finally, I did.

And

It was glorious.

In the holy hush of the early dawn
I hear a Voice
"I am with you all the day,
Rejoice! Rejoice!"

For some reason, this gets me a bit emotional. I think it is because with much chaos in my life off and on since last November - I too have an incredible love and appreciation for simple, normal, day to day living... especially schooling my children. I can not take that for granted, even with books and papers scattered messily about the house. :)

I'm happy you are enjoying your normal.

PS If you have a minute and don't mind, could you tell me how you made your headder with the slide show? Or direct me to where to go to learn how? :D corine.miles@gmail.com if you can... thanks a million! :D

Beautiful! We had a month like that with our college son recently and oh, the beauty of routine when our new normal set in...even if it is, like your example, just a simple candle lit while sitting and learning with your kids, regardless of the waffle here and coffee there! Soo glad to hear that the new normal has set in for you :)

Glad you had such a good day! Hope there are many, many more to come!
The Lord is with you right now, lifting you up, giving you strength! Always praying!
Isaiah 40:28-31 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
